👋 Hi there! I’m Justin Wahkwai Wong.

Even from a young age, I found joy in building and creating, spending my afternoons crafting imaginary worlds with pencil and paper. Those precious hours led me down the path towards a career in illustration and visual storytelling.

For awhile, these artistic pursuits were fine, but deep down I really wished my work could be not just seen but truly experienced. I took a detour and explored the world of UXUI design, my portal into the exciting world of tech. I delved into this intersection of creativity and technology hoping to end my search, but I think my heart still felt the same. Flexing my creativity was fine, but I wanted more than just a pretty prototype and musings of untapped potential within wireframes. I desired something more concrete and real.

This desire has led me on my current path towards becoming a Software Developer with Tech Elevator. Today I continue to build and design with creative code solutions to produce functional user-driven experiences. In this stage of my life, I long to bring innovative ideas into real world practical application.

Sometimes I sketch…

Whether it’s drawing the human figure, still life, or paper prototype for mobile iOS wireframes, practicing spatial awareness in a 2D plane is important for me as a designer.

Sometimes I read…

I am a work-in-progress. Constant growth and continued education helps me stay afloat. When not reading up on design, I enjoy my share of graphic novels and concept art books to scratch that creative itch.

Sometimes I share…

I like collaborating and sharing with other creatives. I have taught youths in the past how to draw and paint as an art instructor. Currently I help teach students as a UX/UI Teaching Assistant at UC Davis.
